Get Back in the Game

Why September Is Your Personal Season Opener

September is the universal reset button.

The air shifts, the schedule tightens, and the energy snaps back into place. Suddenly, everybody’s acting like they’re being called in from halftime. And honestly?

They’re not wrong.

Summer is for drifting. August is for exhaling.

But September?

September is where you lace up and get back in the game.

Maybe your game is showing up for your goals.

Maybe it’s getting your house in order.

Maybe it’s rebuilding your routines, reclaiming your energy, or finally giving a damn again.

Whatever it is, this is the month the coach blows the whistle and says:

“Alright, kid. You’re in.”

And yes, I’m talking to you.

What “The Game” Actually Means

Let’s be clear: this is not hustle culture.

This is not perfection.

And this is definitely not grinding yourself into emotional pulled pork.

“The game” is simpler than that.

It means re-entering your life with clarity, intention, and enough structure that you don’t go completely feral by October.

This isn’t about doing everything.

It’s about doing the next right thing.

The September Playbook

1. Pick One Goal

Not five.

Not fourteen.

One.

Focus is a strategy, not a personality trait.

2. Create a Monday List

Pick three tasks that define the week.

Everything else is extra credit.

3. Ignore the Other Team

Stop comparing your progress to people who are playing a completely different sport.

4. Use Timeouts

Rest is not quitting.

It’s how you coach your nervous system to stay in the game.

5. Celebrate Every First Down

Small wins move the chains.

Touchdowns come later.

Why September Works

Because the energy shifts whether you’re ready or not.

The season changes.

The light changes.

Your body feels it.

Your mind feels it.

September has a way of reminding you that the year isn’t over, and neither are you.

You still have time.

You still have moves to make.

You still have chapters left to write.

So get back in the game.

You do not need to be perfect.

You just need to show up for the next play.

What’s the one goal I’m committing to for the rest of this year — and what’s my first small play toward it?
