Core Meaning

The Four of Swords is sacred rest.

Not laziness. Not escape. But intentional withdrawal to process, recover, and repair.

It shows up when your nervous system has had enough.

Reversed Meaning

Reversed, this card can warn of forced rest — illness, isolation, or burnout. It may also signal a coming shift, where the time for rest is over, and movement is required.

Carol’s Reflection

This is the “don’t push them” card.

If a client gets this, I give them permission to stop trying to fix it all.

Sometimes the wisest thing you can do is not engage.

Client Journal Prompt

What kind of rest do I actually need — and am I allowing myself to have it?
