For the Child You Tucked Away

Three lit candles in white, pink, and purple on a marble table with gold holders. Soft background with flowers in a vase. Warm, calming mood.

Candle Affirmation: For the Tender Parts You Tucked Away

Why This Works:

Lighting a candle focuses your attention. Speaking an affirmation out loud creates a tiny shift in your nervous system. Together, they help calm your inner defenses so something softer can surface — especially the part of you that still needs to be chosen, seen, or told: “You matter.”

What You’ll Need:

1 candle (white, pink, or whatever color feels safe)

1 quiet moment

Your voice (even a whisper counts)

How to Do It:

Light your candle.

Take a deep breath — slower than usual.

Say this out loud (or write your own version):

“To the kid who tried so hard to be good,

the teen who never felt cool,

the grown-up who still doubts herself —

I see you.

I choose you.

I’m not leaving you behind.”

Sit for one minute. Let the warmth of the flame be your reminder that you are still in there — and she’s worth listening to.

Optional Add-On:

Let the candle burn for 7 minutes while you do something childlike but safe: doodle, watch cartoons, eat something sweet, or sing badly to a favorite song.

Because healing doesn’t have to look like work. Sometimes it looks like laughter.
